GIVING GENEROUSLY BECAUSE OF GOD’S
GENEROUS GRACE TOWARDS US.
Why Give?
Tithing is a scriptural principle for us to follow from the heart. Our attitude toward money shows how deeply the gospel has taken root in our hearts. As a bible-centered church we do not give out of a sense of religious duty which feeds our self-righteousness, but we give out of a sense of gratitude for all that God has given us.
Understanding grace, we see that God provides for all our needs - spiritually and materially - so we freely and cheerfully return the first of everything to Him. Motivated by gratitude and submission, we declare our dependence upon God for life, breath and everything else. Grace enables us to thank and trust God.
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. - 2nd Corinthians 9:7
Giving
At Evangel, we aim to worship God in our giving by covenanting together “to contribute cheerfully and regularly (see 2 Corinthians 9:6–7) to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations,” as we strive to honor the Lord with the “firstfruits” (Proverbs 3:9) of all our labor.
We believe that giving is not only monetarily, but according to what God has given you even non-monetarily. Giving extends beyond monetary contributions. It also encompasses volunteering your time, utilizing your talents and skills for the benefit of others, and sharing your resources. Each act of kindness and every shared resource is a form of giving. They serve as a reflection of Christ’s love to those around us.
WHAT BIBLICAL GIVING LOOKS LIKE:
GENEROUS
in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part
2 Corinthians 8:2
CONTINUOUS
But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also.
2 Corinthians 8:7
WILLFUL
For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord
2 Corinthians 8:3
LOVE-MOTIVATED
I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine.
2 Corinthians 8:8
GOD-DIRECTED
and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
2 Corinthians 8:5
NOT COERCED
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
2 Corinthians 9:7
SHARED
Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace.
2 Corinthians 8:6
CHEERFUL
Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
